Occupying number 1-8 Russell Square, the Kimpton Fitzroy London is the epitome of a landmark hotel, right in the heart of the beautiful Bloomsbury neighbourhood. Opened in 1900 (as the Hotel Russell), the hotel reopened in 2018 as the UK’s first Kimpton, whilst still remaining try to its ornate architecture by Charles Fitzroy Doll, the very same designer of the dining room on the RMS Titanic.

The first thing you’ll notice is the silence, then slowly, as your eyes and ears become attuned to the surroundings, the orchestra of Africa’s bush comes alive.

Sitting on the upstairs terrace of the Stanley & Livingstone Boutique Hotel, I look down on a lush garden filled with an assortment of tall Fever and Mopani trees and bedded with agapanthus, peace lilies, elephant ears, and white hibiscus. I’m speaking with Head Gardener, Thomas Muleya, who’d just escorted me around his life’s work, introducing me to each plant. I’m deservedly sipping a glass of Amarula, a cream liqueur made from the fruit of the Marula tree.

The golden violin is blown asunder! Well, this is the appearance of a spectacular bronze iteration of the instrument by celebrated sculptor Antonio Canova, who has skillfully juxtaposed each of the violin’s parts as a bronze sculpture of great polished beauty.

Still, if the instrument was whole, the urge may take hold of you as you enter the Violino d’Oro hotel to play the glistening golden violin waiting on its stand – a worthy temptation as your tired feet traverse the entrance doors into the cool interior of three converted Venetian, 17th-century palazzi.

Last week, I stayed at the luxurious five-star boutique hotel, Sanderson London. If you’ve not heard of it, I would be surprised as it’s one of the original lifestyle hotels in the West End, known for its iconic red lips chaise lounge at the entrance! It’s been on my hotlist for a while now, and after experiencing the Mad Hatters afternoon tea a few months back, it had to be a must-stay! It’s in the heart of the West End and around a 6-minute walk from Oxford Circus station. The hotel’s exterior is unassuming, but once you step inside, you’ll be impressed!

We separate our waste and encourage recycling as much as possible. Our hotel tries to be self-sufficient in terms of energy and we have solar panels that guarantee us a self-production of around 50% of our needs.
